Shunter/Forklift Driver

Aufgaben

We're seeking a driven Shunter/Forklift Driver for our Bellshill site to join our Wet Goods team. This is a fantastic opportunity where you will play a key role in delivering high quality results that align with our Packaging strategy and meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. This hands on role is vital to maintaining operational excellence, ensuring compliance with HMRC and Health & Safety standards, and upholding the highest levels of quality in everything we do.

• Safe Vehicle Shunting
  1. Operate shunter vehicles to manoeuvre trailers, containers, and units within the yard.
  2. Position equipment accurately on loading bays, parking lanes, and designated storage areas.
  3. Carry out coupling and uncoupling of trailers in line with safety procedures.
• Loading Bay Management
  1. Allocate and move trailers to appropriate loading and unloading bays based on operational requirements.
  2. Ensure timely positioning of units to meet loading schedules and turnaround targets.
  3. Monitor bay occupancy and support efficient traffic flow across the yard.
• Trailer & Container Handling
  1. Relocate loaded and empty trailers to optimise yard space and accessibility.
  2. Identify and segregate damaged, temperature-controlled, or priority loads as required.
  3. Ensure all trailers are parked securely, with brakes applied and keys managed correctly.
• Yard Coordination & Communication
  1. Liaise with warehouse teams, transport planners, and gatehouse staff to coordinate movements.
  2. Respond promptly to radio or digital instructions regarding trailer movements.
  3. Report delays, hazards, or operational issues to supervisors.
• Pre-Use & Safety Checks
  1. Conduct daily vehicle checks, including tyres, lights, coupling systems, and safety equipment.
  2. Report defects or maintenance issues in line with company procedures.
  3. Ensure compliance with site safety rules, including speed limits and pedestrian awareness.
• Health & Safety Compliance
  1. Follow all safe systems of work, risk assessments, and site-specific procedures.
  2. Use appropriate PPE at all times while operating in the yard.
  3. Maintain awareness of moving vehicles, pedestrians, and changing yard conditions (e.g., weather).
• Yard Organisation & Housekeeping
  1. Keep the yard organised, ensuring clear lanes and safe access routes.
  2. Assist in maintaining a tidy and hazard-free working environment.
  3. Support with general yard duties as required.
• Documentation & Systems
  1. Update yard management systems or paperwork to reflect trailer movements and locations.
  2. Accurately record arrivals, departures, and repositioning activities.
• Forklift Operations (Desirable)
  1. Operate counterbalance or reach forklift trucks where required to assist with loading, unloading, and repositioning goods.
  2. Support warehouse operations during quieter shunting periods.
  3. Ensure forklift checks are completed, and equipment is used safely in line with training.

Unser idealer Kandidat/in

• Experience operating a shunter possessing current HGV 1 or externally trained Shunter certification to RTITB standard or equivalent body
• Valid forklift licence (counterbalance/reach) desirable.
• Good awareness of yard safety and logistics operations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexible approach to shifts, including nights and weekends.

This role is deemed to be a security cleared role and falls under the remit of Known Consignor, regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority, as such there will be enhanced screening as part of the recruitment.
