Partnerships & Learning Manager (FTC) - William Grant Foundation

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

The William Grant Foundation’s vision is a Scotland where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We receive a share of the company’s annual profits to distribute to good causes and currently make £4-5 million in grants per year, focusing on Scotland. This is an opportunity to join a flexible, proactive, independent funder as one of two Partnerships and Learning Managers working across our wide range of causes and themes which include the environment, arts and heritage, young people and families, and health and wellbeing.

To apply, please complete our online application process via the Apply button below. Please attach a copy of your supporting statement within the 'Attach CV' section of your application. We kindly request that you provide a statement indicating how you believe your skills and experience meet the requirements of the role. You can do this before or after you submit the online application.

Main Responsibility

In this maternity cover position, you’ll take on responsibility for advancing our work in two of our key thematic areas: Health and Social Causes and Scottish Culture and Heritage. Working closely with a volunteer-led giving group for each theme, you’ll bring your excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of the third sector in Scotland to facilitate their ongoing learning about their current areas of focus, including through connections to other funders, experts and practitioners; help inform decisions about how to allocate grant-making budgets; and steward a portfolio of funding relationships with charities and organisations. Working collaboratively as part of a small team, you’ll also apply your excellent organisational and communication skills to Foundation-wide initiatives to support our grantees, learn and improve in our role as an independent funder, and communicate about our work and what we’re learning.

Our Ideal Candidate

Given the temporary nature of this position, we are looking for someone who has the necessary insight and experience to quickly pick up these key responsibilities and work confidently with our Foundation stakeholders. You’ll need to have good insight into how our funding can add value to the work of the organisations we partner with, so the ideal candidate is likely to have experience of grant-making, philanthropy, social investment or third sector capacity-building. But experience of designing and managing programmes in a third sector organisation may also be helpful. You’ll either already have subject knowledge and networks relating to one or more of our areas of interest or a proven ability to quickly develop expertise and build external networks and relationships. Experience of facilitating meetings and discussions, excellent written communication skills and the ability to work independently and prioritise your own workload will ensure you can deliver across the varied tasks involved in this stimulating role, along with a creative, versatile and collaborative approach to getting things done.

This opportunity may suit someone already working within another funding organisation or a sector support or infrastructure body who wishes to broaden their experience of grant-making and philanthropy, so we are open to secondment arrangements.
