Operations Information Security Specialist

Job Introduction

The Security Operations Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining William Grant & Sons Cyber security platforms and tools to protect our systems, networks, and data from potential Cyber threats. This role demands strong technical expertise, analytical thinking, and an initiative-taking approach to identifying and mitigating security risks.

The Security specialist role within the team will work to implement new security services, continually improve our existing security services. and develop consumable Security patterns driving the adoption of consistent security controls and standards “Security by design”.

Main Responsibility

  • Design and implement cybersecurity platforms and tools that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusion such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, vulnerability management platform, XDR Platform, and antivirus software.
  • Continually develop our Cyber Security platforms and tools, ensuring the stay current through regular updates, patching and optimal configuration.
  • Identify, define, and document system security requirements and recommend solutions to management.
  • Provide input into the Planning, development, implementing and updating of the company’s information security strategy. Assist with the development, update, and enforcement of security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Enhance internal collaboration and communication through knowledge sharing on Cyber Security best practices.
  • Develop consumable Security patterns driving the adoption of consistent security controls and standards across the organisation “Security by design.”
  • Provide 24x7 support for responding to Cyber security incidents, out of hours support (On call rota)

Our Ideal Candidate

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in network security concepts, including security system administration, intrusion detection, and encryption.
  • Knowledge of various operating systems and their security configurations.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, network protocols, and cloud security.

Cybersecurity Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, threats, and attack vectors.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Experience with security frameworks and standards

Incident Response:

  • Lead incident response efforts, investigate security breaches, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to contain and remediate security incidents.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Collaboration with IT teams and management to implement security measures.
  • Work as part of cross functional project teams delivering new capabilities.

Analytical Thinking:

  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify and address security vulnerabilities.
  • Capacity to analyse data and make informed decisions regarding security measures.

The role holder should hold one or more relevant industry qualifications. Examples are:

  • Cyber related degree or relevant experience
  • 5 years+ experience in a Cyber security roles
  • 2 years+ experience in a Cyber Security engineering role
  • Cyber Security professional certifications advantageous for example, CISSP, CREST, ISACA, GIAC.
