Legal Counsel - Construction & Engineering

Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Counsel - Construction and Engineering to join our Global Legal Team. This role will be integral to the expansion ambitions of the Company’s distilleries and other operational sites. As a specialist in your field, you will navigate and support complex capex projects and be a key player in the Company’s construction successes.

Main Responsibility

The successful candidate will work to support the Global Engineering Team to deliver ambitious construction and engineering projects across the Company. They will also be responsible for developing innovative and effective ways of working and supporting the Company’s legal compliance agenda across the operational teams.

This is a challenging and versatile role and would suit an ambitious individual, with  strong interest and experience, in the construction and engineering field, as well as the associated infrastructure projects required to create high-end consumer goods.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Law degree and right to practice in the United Kingdom, with specific knowledge & experience of Construction and Engineering law.
  • Post-qualification experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating SBCC contracts, MF/1 agreements, consultant appointments and other industry standard documents.
  • Post-qualification experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial and corporate agreements is desirable.
  • Experience in developing and rolling-out engaging and effective legal training to non-lawyers.
  • Experience in advising on construction projects for other consumer good businesses would be advantageous.
  • Interested in sustainability and energy-efficiency projects.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills that enable working with a wide variety of areas, cultures and levels of responsibility.
  • Energetic and self-motivated.
  • Draws on strong legal knowledge and expertise to carry out role efficiently.
  • Demonstrates a high level of business acumen.
  • Displays high levels of integrity and resilience.
