Commercial Counsel, US ODC

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

The US spirits market is one of the most dynamic, exciting (and regulated!) spirits markets globally.  As principle point of contact for legal support to our commercial and marketing teams, the US counsel’s role is integral to providing front line legal support that helps the business maximize the opportunities for our incredible portfolio of brands while minimizing legal risk.  It won’t be for everyone, but, if you’re up for a challenge, it might be for you!

Main Responsibility

You will provide legal support to our US business across all functions.  This means one day you might be review marketing and promotional materials for the latest Hendrick’s advertising campaign; the next draft a Milagro stadium sponsorship; then plan and roll out an alcohol beverage compliance training program tailored to our world-class brand ambassador team; or review a Manhattan real estate lease for our New York Midtown office.  In a fast-paced dynamic business, pretty much any and every type of legal work is in scope.  You won’t be on your own though. There is an internal legal team you can lean on to support you and you’ll instruct and work with external counsel too.

Our Ideal Candidate

You were probably one of the top performers in school.  You’re curious, inquisitive, ambitious and like a challenge.  You’re a self-starter.  Confident, but not arrogant.  You know what you don’t know.  You don’t have all the answers but are savvy and know who to go to and how to find them. You’re a clean, concise communicator.  You have energy and want to have fun at work.  You’ve a couple of years practicing law under your belt and your technical skills have been honed a bit. Now you want to focus on how you become a better in-house lawyer, more commercial, a better business partner.  If this sounds like you, then we’re keen to hear from you! The pay range for this role located in our New York City office is $124,740-$147,420

Additional skills and qualifications needed for this role:

  • Law degree and right to practice in relevant jurisdiction as an attorney-at-law or in-house counsel.
  • Post-qualification experience 2-3yrs
  • Experience of developing and rolling out compliance programs including delivering legal compliance training to non-lawyers.
  • Have a practical, commercially oriented, and customer-centric approach to providing legal solutions and advice.
  • Have good written and verbal English communication and presentation skills, with excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills that enable working with a wide variety of areas, cultures and levels of responsibility and interact proactively and confidently with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in alcohol/beverage sector or advising other brand-led businesses would be advantageous.
  • Energetic and self-motivated.
  • Draws on strong legal knowledge and expertise to carry out role efficiently.
  • Demonstrates a high level of business acumen.
  • Displays high levels of integrity and resilience.

The salary range for this role based out of our NYC office is ~$125,221 - $149,925.
